Women on the Home Front
an illustrated talk by Edward Dixon
The status of women was changed
fundamentally during the Great War. The men
who went to war created a huge shortage of
labour and the women were not slow to take
their places. It was not long until women were
doing a whole range of jobs that had never
before been open to them. The contribution
they made in skills, cheerfulness and their
bravery were significant factors in helping the
Allies to win the war.
Hear how they coped with shortages of food
and the danger of bombing from the air. It was
not an easy time, a real test and the women
passed with flying colours.
