Thursday 30th October 7.30pm Flackwell Heath Community Library Women on the Home Front an illustrated talk by Edward Dixon The status of women was changed fundamentally during the Great War. The men who went to war created a huge shortage of labour and the women were not slow to take their places. It was not long until women were doing a whole range of jobs that had never before been open to them. The contribution they made in skills, cheerfulness and their bravery were significant factors in helping the Allies to win the war. Hear how they coped with shortages of food and the danger of bombing from the air. It was not an easy time, a real test and the women passed with flying colours.
