Medical studies into the health benefits of singing have revealed that choir singing can be as beneficial to health as yoga! We have around 30 members some of whom have long term health conditions and ot hers who have been through a tough time recently. Some of our members are in perfect health and just love to sing to keep it that way! The sessions are an hour long and musical experience, or the ability to read music, is not a necessity. I found that - strange as it might seem - singing was a great way of easing the pain. I subsequently found there had been many medical studies into the health and wellness benefits of singing and that it has been found to deliver a wealth of benefits. One recent study revealed that choir singing can be as beneficial to health as yoga! We are very much focused on having fun; we spend as much time laughing as we do singing! My aim is always to make sure people go out of the room at the end of the session feeling uplifted and happy and having enjoyed singing, and feeling a sense of teamwork and achievement, whatever their level of musical ability.
