Migraines and Me
I was eleven when I got my first migraine . This is my story about migraines and me .
Firstly , I recently watched a video online of This Morning with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield interviewing Peter Goadsby , Professor of Neuorology at King ’ s College in London . He was talking about a breakthrough drug for migraines . He spoke about an injection that involves a self-inject pen that should prevent migraines once symptoms of a migraine occur .
It is the first new migraine treatment in 20 years and is said to have very few side effects . It will be coming out sometime this year , 2018 .
I have a major fear of needles which I know is quite a common thing , so I think I would struggle with this , but if it stops me from ever having a migraine again , I would certainly consider it !
Secondly , I read online from The Independent that Monoclonal antibodies – a new type of large molecule drug that target CGRP * - are the first treatment for migraines to be developed in decades and the first ever for preventing migraine attacks . Results published in the New England Journal of Medicine from large late-stage clinical trials have shown that monthly injections of a drug called Erenumab blocks CGRP binding to its receptor which reduces the occurrence of attacks in up to 60 % of people . As a bonus , it has hardly any side effects .
If anyone knows of any further information about these two new migraine medicines I would love to hear from them !
