RESTAURANT REVIEW By Natalie Gerrish Beaconsfield We had the pleasure of dining at the new Giggling Squid restaurant in Beaconsfield recently and we cannot complain! The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, everywhere has been designed with such care and it has a summery feel (something we definitely needed at the time of writing this review!). The staff are very attentive, their service is super speedy, and it’s the place to go to get rid of your hunger. Chang beer both of which originate from Thailand. We shared starters, unlike Joey from Friends who ‘doesn’t share food!’. But it’s the Thai way of eating and it’s something we really like to do. We had the Tamarind Prawns and the Chicken Satay - both delicious. Since having the Chicken Satay at the launch evening we couldn’t wait to have more! The story behind this restaurant is a lovely one. Founded in 2002 by Thai-born Pranee Laurillard and her husband Andrew, they wanted to create simple, yet rustic, Thai food that people could enjoy like they do at home. Their first Thai tapas menu really took off, so much so that they now have 24 restaurants with a few more planned for later this year. The vibe from the staff is very much a family orientated one which made our visit all the more special. Even the name involves family with Giggling Squid being the nickname of one of their three children. Chatting to Pranee at the restaurant’s launch event I discovered her original idea was to replicate a little taste of Thailand and she definitely does that. Having toured around Thailand last year I can vouch for the authentic flavours; they brought back so many happy memories. For our mains we shared the Crying Beef and the Koong Chu Chi which is a prawn dish with a red curry sauce. The beef was flavoursome; it came on a hot charcoal dish with peppers, onions and a spicy sauce which has a real kick! Our desserts were my favourite part of the night! Having to follow a gluten-free diet, desserts are something I often can’t eat. Not the case at all at the Giggling Squid. We shared a Molten Chocolate Dessert and a Prosecco and Muddled Berry Cheesecake which were equally divine! The cheesecake came with a mango coulis; I could eat this everyday it was so good! We highly recommend you book a table to try the Giggling Squid for yourself; it will not disappoint. I enjoyed a summer breeze virgin cocktail which was very refreshing, a little bit like a mojito but with lychee syrup to sweeten it! They offer several cocktails, bubbles, smoothies and even a baileys coffee which is a personal favourite of mine!
