Three members of the Group will describe the recent research carried out by the Group into the involvement of local men in the Machine (Swing) riots, with particular reference to three of them. • Jane Dunsterville will set the scene, by detailing the social conditions at the time. • Mike Dewey will consider how the riots developed. •  ony Hines will describe what happened to three of those men, John Sarney, Thomas Blizzard T & James Barton. These three men were all sentenced to transportation but the outcome for them and their families was so different it makes a fascinating story. The talks will last approximately one and a half hours, during which there will be a short break. Tickets £5 (£3 to Friends of FHCL) from the Library.
