Our next talk at the Flackwell Heath Library will be on:
Monday 18th September, from 7.30pm
Wood Turning with Robert Bishop
Robert is on the register of Professional Turners supported by the Worshipful Company of Turners. In
his studio he turns large bowls and hollow forms using a variety of burr, exotic and native woods from
sustainable sources. Robert will explain the process and techniques of wood turning and touch on the
relationship between a modern-day turner and a bodger, who turned the round parts for chairs.
Robert’s work can be seen at the Kraft Village Gallery
in High Wycombe. The main photo is from the Chair
Museum at the Kraft Village, the treadle lathe belonged
to Silas Saunders who was one of three bodgers still
working in Bucks in the early 1960’s
Robert accepts commissions, if you have your own
wood, from a memorable tree for example, he will
be pleased to turn a bowl or hollow form to your
specification. Otherwise you can choose a wood from
his stock or select a gift from his gallery of already
turned work.
This is a ticketed event. The tickets will be available at the library
from 21st August 2017, and are £5 (£3 to friends of FHCL).
Please note that tickets will not be available on the night.
