The symptoms of carbon
monoxide poisoning can be
similar to that of a flu or a
bad hangover- dizziness,
tiredness, nausea,
tension-type headaches-
and with ongoing inhalation
this will progress to difficulty
breathing and collapse.
But it is not all bad news. We do have a
secret weapon up our sleeves. Carbon
monoxide detectors save lives.
Installing and maintaining an efficient
carbon monoxide detector will keep you
and your family safe. By sounding an alarm,
this device will inform you that the deadly
gas has been detected, and to leave the
house for fresh air. It is important to invest
in a good quality detector. Rigorous testing
by Which? revealed that a fifth of carbon
monoxide monitors on the UK
market failed to detect carbon
monoxide, and therefore are
considered unreliable and
dangerous. These monitors are
listed on the Which? website,
along with recommendations
for installation. It’s also vital that
appliances are installed correctly
and serviced annually by a registered
engineer.
