little help from some extra strong ibuprofen
tablets. They gave me the boost I needed,
but despite taking the maximum dose of
very strong tablets they still didn’t quite get
rid of the headache.
It always scares me to drive after having a
migraine as I’m not sure if I’ll have another
and then get stuck somewhere not being
able to see, which of course means no
longer being able to drive. I’d then have to
call someone to come and rescue me and
later on they’d have to rescue my car! With
this migraine I thought I’d be brave and tell
myself ‘I won’t have another, I will be fine to
drive’.
As I was driving to my boyfriend’s house I
noticed something which might help you
understand what an aura is. When I usually
explain an aura to someone, which is the
flashing silver lights in front of your eyes,
people usually say they understand but if
you’ve never experienced it I know that they
really have no clue as to what I’m talking
about. The flashing lights on a police car, a
fire engine or an ambulance are exactly what
an aura looks like to me, although the colour
is silver and not blue. Next time you see an
emergency vehicle drive past, just take a
second to think that this is similar to what a
person who has a migraine can usually see
for around 30 minutes, sometimes longer,
even with their eyes shut!
Six days after this migraine I thought I was
way past it but, unfortunately, I had another!
Luckily the second one was nowhere near
as bad and I recovered quite quickly. Let’s
hope for more of these gentle kind of
migraines in the future, if I have any!
