Flackwell Heath Bowling Club
2
“The Cherries” was formed in 1984 in
response to local demand – since when it
has gone from strength to strength. The
Club is now a focal point in the village,
providing as it does, both sporting and
social activities. “Fun, Fitness and
Friendship” is our Club’s adopted motto
and although essentially a summer
outdoor bowling organisation we offer
various close season pursuits including
whist, short-mat bowling, bingo and
skittles to shake off those winter blues!
FHBC is a member of the Bucks Bowling
Association and participates in many
South Bucks competitions including
Chiltern & Thames, Three Counties and
the Bucks Plate and League contests,
We have a full fixture list with many
bowling clubs in the area, hold our own
internal competitions and have regular
practice (roll-up) sessions to suit all levels
of players.
The Club boasts one of the finest greens
in the county and has a very well stocked
licenced bar.
Bowling is both a sociable and skilful
game and new members of any age and
capability are very welcome to come
along and “GIVE BOWLS A TRY”
We look forward to hearing from you and
seeing you soon !!!
What better way to enjoy an afternoon.
Have you ever stood and watched a game
of bowls on sunny afternoon and thought
to yourself, those guys seem to be enjoying
themselves, maybe you also thought, they’re
a bit old, that’s not for me, but, hey, I’m not
getting any younger.
Bowls is not a game just for oldies, it’s for
all ages It’s just that when you’re a bit older
you have more time, sometimes too much
time, it’s a great way to while away a sunny
afternoon, a little exercise, a chat with
convivial company and a cup of tea. I bet
now your thinking, that’s for me.
What is the game of bowls? Well, normally
you play in teams of three or maybe four
with two or three plastic balls called woods,
that sometimes seem to have a mind of
their own.
The idea is to get near the jack, but of
course your opponent wants the same,
that’s easy, you say to yourself, well why not
come along and see, the more you play the
better it gets. Bowls is the only game that
I know where you are praised for a good
wood but no-one ever criticises you for a
bad one.
At Flackwell Heath Bowls Club we have
a great bunch of people, a wonderful club
house, possibly the nicest in the area and
the green is brilliant. We also have a skittle
alley, bingo and whist afternoons and also
the odd social night. If you want to join the
social activities, you can. If you just want a
pleasant afternoon in the sun, fine.
We start playing at the beginning of April
and go on until the beginning of September.
We will lend you the woods and even give
you coaching. Why not give it a go, no
matter what age you are I know you’ll
enjoy it.
