Our Polish cucumbers are looking very healthy in the
greenhouse as you can see, but our sweetcorn is suffering in
the rain. Thankfully, next year this won’t be a problem. Daina,
at Beaconsfield Garden Centre, has given us two wonderfully
huge poly tunnels. These couldn’t be sold as some minor
parts were missing but instead of just throwing them away she
thought of us. Thank you Daina, you are a star!
I have spent time helping my daughter deliver her Hiya Bucks
magazines this summer and it’s a fantastic opportunity to get
ideas from people’s gardens as you march down the many
driveways. I’ve seen enormous ornamental thistles, stunning
ferns and the idea of growing vegetables in raised beds in the
front garden, which I would never have thought of, but I love.
I even came away from one lovely resident with some seeds
from the fabulous peachy orange poppies she caught me
admiring as I popped her copy through the letterbox. You do
have to make sure you don’t look like you’re up to no good,
which isn’t easy for me, when I see a plant I absolutely love.
Thankfully, I wasn’t arrested once!
It does prove though that gardeners are the loveliest of
people, and Holtspur is full of them.
