WIN an Overn ight Stay, see page 24 Reader Review Comfortable, affordable Buckinghamshire Stay... The Ethorpe Hotel in Gerrards Cross My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Ethorpe Hotel, situated on Packhorse Road in Gerrards Cross. There is ample parking in a pay-and-display car park, which is free for hotel guests, and it has 36 bedrooms. The creaky, wooden building has bundles of character, and we were not kept waiting for more than ten seconds at the front desk. The receptionist explained everything clearly to us, including dinner, breakfast and bar opening times, and directed us to our room (£89 for one night excluding breakfast). We were on the first floor, up a grand spiral staircase lined with artwork, where there was also a table with guides to local attractions, such as Cliveden House in Taplow and Odds Farm Park in Wooburn Common. Our room, number 19, overlooked the car park and was spacious and clean. There was a very comfortable king size bed, spare pillows in the wardrobe, television, ironing board and air conditioning/heating unit. The desk, complete with tea and coffee tray, held a personalised greeting card and a pile of dinner, breakfast and drinks menus. The en-suite had a shower over the bath and complimentary shower gel and soap in dispensers. With Christmas just around the corner, the Ethorpe is also offering special Festive, Christmas Day and Boxing Day menus in its Chef & Brewer restaurant. The hotel is ideally located just around the corner from the High Street with a Tesco superstore, spacious Costa, Odeon Cinema and a variety of both chain and independent restaurants. Whilst not a five star establishment, the first rate customer service and comfort level make the Ethorpe a great choice for a short stay in beautiful Bucks. We feel we must give special recognition to Cheryl who gave us exceptional service. Lucy Jane Gonzalez Overall, the hotel offers a basic but very comfortable stay, perfect for a stopover for friends or family staying in the area.
