Westfield Authority day special school
School is a
Buckinghamshire Local
for up to 35 primary aged boys and girls. Children
attending the school experience difficulties arising
from communication and interaction, and/ or social
and emotional needs. These needs mean that
pupils may present challenging behaviours in a
mainstream school as learning in a large group can
be so stressful for them.
In September the pupils and their teachers enjoyed an afternoon sailing experience on the
Thames instigated by Bourne End & Cookham Rotary Club and the Upper Thames Sailing
Club (www.utsc.org.uk).
Some years ago the Rotary Club opted to be the main sponsors of the UTSC’s Junior Week
and out of this developed a unique partnership whereby
sailing club members give their time freely to provide a
sailing experience.
This year 29 young people from Westfield School enjoyed
their time on the river in 2 shifts with the opportunity to
enjoy an art & craft experience when not sailing. Head
teacher Geoff Allen
commented that
the school and
it’s pupils were
very grateful for
the opportunity
provided by UTSC and told us that everyone
thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon out.
