nutrition I am the Nutritional Therapist that helped Natalie recover from her migraines. (see page 16) I discovered my passion for good nutrition when I finally got myself well after decades of very poor health. I then did a degree so that I could help others achieve their optimum health. Here are some of the most common questions people ask when they hear what I do. Emily Lamont BSc, BA, Dip CNE Nutritional Therapist What is Nutritional Therapy? Nutritional Therapy offers you a personalised programme which is as unique and individual as you are. During a consultation we take a full health history of your diet and lifestyle, and any past illness and surgeries. In addition to this, we investigate how genetics, environment, and other factors, such as stressful events, may be contributing to your current state of well-being. When we have a better idea of what may be causing the body to send its cries for help by way of symptoms, we are better equipped to deal with them. Often people manage symptoms by masking them with medication, treatments and ointments. Whilst often useful, if you don’t find the problem’s source it can be like playing the fairground game Whack-A-Mole. You chase and deal with symptoms as they arise, but the ‘mole’ is likely pop up again somewhere else with increasing frequency. Who is it for? Well, we all eat and drink and can probably all make improvements so in my opinion it’s for everyone. However, more often than not I see clients who are fed up with their symptoms whether niggling or severe and are ready to address their problems at the core. I work alongside any current healthcare provision you have in place. I have supported people with conditions such as (but not limited to): anxiety & depression, IBS and digestive problems, migraine and headaches, chronic fatigue, MS, weight management, PMS and conditions associated with female hormone imbalance, reducing cardiovascular disease risk, skin complaints, auto-immune and inflammatory conditions and frequent infection. Will you make me drink kale smoothies? First of all I won’t make you do anything you don’t want to! Sometimes I will introduce foods that you are not used to having, but it’s all done in a realistic way that fits around your lifestyle, tastes and budget. If you really don’t like something we can find alternatives to ensure your nutritional requirements are met. After feeling the positive benefits of a new way of eating, most clients tell me they never want to go back to their old ways.
