This month I was contacted by a South Bucks resident who leads the Foundation for Endangered Species. I had no idea this existed right here on our doorstep. Being a charity they obviously rely on donations from the general public but they also offer the opportunity to get involved too, which is quite unusual. Therefore, if you have spare time on your hands, are retired, or you fancy exploring the world for something different, see page 12 for contact details. Plus, you can enter the competition this month to win one of their handmade upcycled bird boxes. Also this month we feature puppy Hebe from another fantastic locally based charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. This cute puppy will be trained to alert deaf people to important sounds they would otherwise miss, often with life-saving consequences. You can find their details on page 6 Take a look at Dr. Thakkar’s health article on page 28. The talk he is giving might not be beneficial for you but it could help a friend or family member, so please pass on the details if they don’t receive a copy of this magazine. Additional copies of Hiya Bucks can be picked up from various locations in south Bucks, including Waitrose stores in Beaconsfield, Amersham, Hazlemere and their lovely new store at Handy Cross, or copies can be read/downloaded from www.hiyabucks.com. July sees the start of the school summer holidays. My kids are all grown up now but the last day of school, before the holidays, was one I always looked forward to. The freedom of no school run, no lunch boxes, no homework, and, of course, having the kids with me every day made me very happy. I’m very lucky I still get to spend lots of time with them all. Whatever you are doing this month stay safe, and enjoy!
