Unsure what career path to follow Jerry Gray decided to drive overland to Australia in a camper-van . Unfortunately , the van was written off in a field after a party , so Jerry set off on foot with a back-pack . He reached India before falling ill , terminally , as far as the trip was concerned .
In 1990 he took part in the Mille Miglia Retrospective in a 1933 Alfa Romeo 1750 . His experiences and photographs of the Mille Miglia were published in classic car magazines and he won a photographic prize in Corriere della Sera .
Jerry lives in Buckinghamshire with his long-suffering wife Inge , who still believes he has too much “ man-fun ”: he motorbikes , plays racketball , drinks real ale and goes on annual golf weekends with his ex-football friends .
The Headhunter is Jerry ’ s first novel and the humour varies from sophisticated word-play and allusion to coarse schoolboy wit .
The novel opens with the hero , Adam Noone , contemplating the murder of his new , female boss . The first chapter reveals her awful , ruthless character and therefore hints at why Noone has reached breaking point ; the chapter ends with him about to reflect on how it all went wrong .
