Plant life HQ It’s always a shock when the first of the cold days of winter arrive. It happens every year but somehow that thought never helps. A few crisp sunny mornings have been a welcome blessing the last few days and have really helped to cheer me up as I travel around on my garden maintenance rounds. There are still a few flowering plants trying their best to cheer us up this month. The bright yellow Mahonia is flowering well right now and some early Helebores are starting to show now too. Even in the depths of winter you can see some signs that the garden is thinking ahead to the next season and some of the bulbs have just started appearing in the borders, hopefully a sign that spring can’t be that far away! December is, of course, all about Christmas and we continue with the traditions of bringing greenery into the house on the darkest and coldest days. Christmas trees are the main plant that gets brought into our homes but holly and ivy are still used to decorate. Mistletoe has been used since the 1700’s and the Garden design Victorians were big fans of a cheeky & construction kiss under the mistletoe and so it Planting plans continues today.
