SPRING is almost here! Open the windows, plant flowers, clean up winter's gray, and get into GREEN! Now is the time to start planting herbs that will enhance your foods! Clean eating makes you feel wonderful, balanced, energized, and lean! Adding a few beautiful FRESH herbs that you have grown (or purchased!), really enhances the flavors of foods! An added bonus are the Benefits that specific herbal plants can have on your health! So let's take a look a few of the more common herbs: 1. Sweet Basil:~ Use basil to make pesto! Crush pine nuts, garlic, and a fruity olive oil (lemon) to make a delicious spread for breads, crackers, or use on chicken! Basil marries well with tomatoes! Add basil and tomatoes to lettuce greens for a cool, crisp flavor. Basil helps fight migraines, digestive problems, and insomnia. It can be used as an antiseptic and tonic for your skin. 2. Rosemary:~ Love the scent of Rosemary! It's one of my favorites! Mince Rosemary and sprinkle on cooked root vegetables (like Rosemary potatoes, or blend into a light olive oil or flax oil salad dressing. Roasted chicken is perfect with Rosemary sprigs cooked right on top of it! Make a warm soup with sweet potatoes flavored with Rosemary. Rosemary is a powerful liver stimulant that rejects toxins. Used in soaps, shampoos, and various ointments. Some people believe that rosemary prevents wrinkles.
