"I eat healthy, but I can't seem to lose weight." "I eat healthy foods, but nothing is changing." I can't tell you how many times over the last 15 years I've heard this statement from a person interested in the transformation process. What's the answer? The simple version is NO. But let's dig a little deeper. 1. What is your definition of "healthy" eating? If to you, this means eating a variety of whole foods the majority of the time, eating good combinations of lean proteins, high quality carbohydrates and fats, then you're on the right track! This still isn't enough in and of itself for fat loss and visually changing the body, but it's a good foundation. Too often I hear that people feel their diet is "healthy", and then they describe all the processed foods they are eating. Or they think that if they eat something "gluten free" or "fat free" that means that it's healthy, or could be the box has a picture of a plant on it, or big green words that say things like "Nature" or has "healthy" somewhere labeled on the packaging (next to a huge list of ingredients that you can't pronounce). Don't feel bad if this describes you though, we live in a world of confusing media and product marketing all geared towards trying to sell product and make you think it's "healthy". You are not alone! Know ledge is power when it comes to choosing what you put in your body, you just have to be careful of where you get that knowledge from! One thing you can start doing is reading labels, both ingredient labels and nutritional information labels. The fewer ingredients listed, the better. If there's just ONE ingredient listed, well that's the best...(unless that one ingredient is sugar of course!). Start looking at the amount of carbohydrate, sugar, fat and protein are in the foods that you're eating. And also make note of what a serving size is. Ignorance truly is bliss when it comes to how you fuel your body, the more you know, the harder it makes it to make a poor choice.
