Mr. L.L. Brassfield, Architect for the long range program in the white schools was
consulted, and the board instructed Mr. Brassfield to proceed with preliminary recommendations,
estimates and cost of the new construction.
The following personnel were approved for the 1960-61 session: Willie Clarence Davis
and George L. Davis, bus operators serving Middleton School, to replace John Henry Cole and
Tommy Gaiter, who failed to secure driver’s certificates. Leonard Taylor, driver for Clarkdale
School.
The board visited the Enterprise Colored School that is under construction to determine
whether or not they would use similar structures in the erection of new buildings in Lauderdale
County.
Upon a motion made by Mr. Clayton, seconded by Mr. Lackey, and thereafter
unanimously adopted, the following resolution was drawn: BE IT RESOLVED that the
Lauderdale County Board of Education requests the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors to
call an election in the Lauderdale County School District for the approval of a bond issue in the
maximum amount of $1,100,000.00 for the purposes of (a) erecting, repairing, equipping,
remodeling, and enlarging school building and related facilities, including gymnasium,
auditoriums, lunch rooms, vocational training building, libraries; (b) establishing and equipping
school athletic fields and necessary facilities in connection therewith; (c) providing necessary
water, lights, heating, and sewerage facilities for school buildings, according to the Long Range
School Program for Lauderdale County, Mississippi as approved by the State Educational
Finance Commission at a regular meeting held on August 15, 1960.
