Courses offered - In the high school, Lauderdale offers 23 ½ units of work. This
includes four units of English and four of math, including general math, plane geometry and two
years of algebra. In science; chemistry and biology are offered in alternate years. In social
science; American history, world history, Mississippi history, American government, civics,
world geography and sociology are offered. Also offered are: four units of agriculture, two of
home economics, typing and one each of bookkeeping and shorthand. Gill would like most to
improve the vocational program, he said to help the student who will get no more education and
must earn a living.
At Collinsville, Principal T.R. Chisolm had fewer complaints, but outdoor toilets are in
use and both the main building and the gym are aging. The main building was erected in 1936,
the gym in 1942.
Has Vocational Building – A concrete block vocational building contains an agriculture
shop, a classroom and an office. It was erected in 1925. It appeared to contain a greater quantity
of equipment than some of the other shops, but it condition was unimpressive.
Collinsville has 471 students and 19 teachers. Some overcrowding exists in the lower
grades, where some of them must share a room and a teacher. In the high school, 23½ units are
