Meridian Star, December 30, 1969 Three Meetings Slated Tonight Three private school groups have scheduled meetings tonight in Lauderdale County. At 7 p.m. the Lauderdale County Academy planned to conduct a registration and enrollment period at the Lauderdale Community Center. Rev. H.D. Hillsmar, a member of the academy’s board of trustees, said student s would be enrolled in grades 1-6 and “possibly in the seventh and eighth grades if enough interest is shown.” He said membership in the private academy organization, operating in the Northeastern section of the county was $25. Two meetings have been set for 7:30 p. m., one at Whynot and other at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Rev. Melvin Porter and supporters of the Mt. Vernon Christian School will discuss progress in that private school’s efforts at the church on Valley Road south of Meridian. Whynot Academy patrons will meet at the old Whynot School, located 13 miles southeast of the Queen City on Highway 19 South, to discuss their proposed 1-12 grade institution and to map final plans for a fund-raising chicken fry slated New Year’s Day at the community center.
