Three Meetings Slated Tonight
Three private school groups have scheduled meetings tonight in Lauderdale County. At
7 p.m. the Lauderdale County Academy planned to conduct a registration and enrollment period
at the Lauderdale Community Center. Rev. H.D. Hillsmar, a member of the academy’s board of
trustees, said student s would be enrolled in grades 1-6 and “possibly in the seventh and eighth
grades if enough interest is shown.” He said membership in the private academy organization,
operating in the Northeastern section of the county was $25. Two meetings have been set for
7:30 p. m., one at Whynot and other at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Rev. Melvin Porter and
supporters of the Mt. Vernon Christian School will discuss progress in that private school’s
efforts at the church on Valley Road south of Meridian. Whynot Academy patrons will meet at
the old Whynot School, located 13 miles southeast of the Queen City on Highway 19 South, to
discuss their proposed 1-12 grade institution and to map final plans for a fund-raising chicken fry
slated New Year’s Day at the community center.
