the top ten foals and six of the top ten
yearlings.
The most pricey of his foals was
Northern Farm’s colt out of US champion
Azeri snapped up by Desk Valet Co.
Ltd for ¥240,000,000. Northern Farms’
international approach was also reflected by
the second most expensive foal, a colt out
of the Argentine multiple Grade 1 winner
Malpensa, bought by Hajime Satomi for
¥230,000,000.
The four most expensive yearlings were
all by Deep Impact. They were headed by
Northern Farm’s brother to two winners out
of Grade 2 winner Shes All Eltish, purchased
by Riichi Kondo for ¥180,000,000.
Paul Fudge’s Waratah Thoroughbreds
was also in action during the yearling session,
signing for lots including a Tapit colt out
of the Cherry Hinton-placed Art Princess,
bought for ¥80,000,000. David Redvers
made his presence felt too, signing for two
yearlings, including a King Kamehameha
colt for ¥90,000,000, as well as three foals.

SOUTH AFRICA
The third renewal of the Cape Thoroughbreds
Premier Yearling Sale proved the strongest yet
with the record price broken twice during
the opening session.
New owner Adriaan van Vuuren
went to R3,250,000 for the top
lot, a Silvano colt offered by Andreas
Jacobs’ Maine Chance Farm
who is a brother to multiple
winner and Grade 3-placed
filly Romantic Moon. Last
David Redvers: five Japanese
purchases, including a son of
King Kamehameha for ¥90m
year’s top price of R2.8m was also eclipsed
by a Dynasty colt out of a Listed-winning
half-sister to Artie Schiller – a half-brother
to last year’s sale-topper – bought by Form
Bloodstock for R3m.
The Emperors Palace National Yearling
Sales recorded its second-highest price
ever when a Dynasty half-brother to
the Grade 1-placed Chave De Oura was
purchased by Markus Jooste for R3.6m.
In early November, the Ready To Run Sale
of two-year-olds was headed by an Encosta
De Lago colt bought by Misty Meadows for
R1.8m, adding to the highest aggregate in
the sale’s history.
