HOWING and studying
yearlings on a hot day at
the Arqana sales complex at
Deauville in August is thirsty work, but
luckily for buyers, vendors and agents,
the Racing Post and Weatherbys teamed
up to provide refreshment in the opulent
surroundings of the Hôtel Royal Barrière.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of
the party, a celebration cake was made.
It was only ornamental but that did not
matter as the Hôtel Royal’s chefs put on
an array of culinary delights including
oysters, smoked salmon and foie gras.
Glorious sunshine – which, alas,
has not been a regular guest down the
years – allowed the restaurant doors to
the gardens to be opened and the party
spilled outside.
Racing Post chief executive Alan
Byrne, Weatherbys client relations
director Nick Cheyne and Hôtel Royal
general manager Laurent Roussin made
speeches toasting ten years of the event.
Guests at the annual Racing Post and Weatherbys buffet lunch included (1, from left) Willie Carson, Fiona and John Ferguson, Dinah Nicholson, Stephen Kemble;
(2) Mick and Jill Channon, Sarah Sands; (3) Carter Carnegie, Anna Powell, Paul Bittar; (4) Philippa Hills, Adrian Nicoll, Charlie Hills, Barry Weisbord; (5) Alex,
Paul and Amanda Cole, John and Jean Manley; (6) the Racing Post’s Keeley Chalk, Tom Pennington, Cheryl Gunn, Martin Stevens. Pictures: PATRICK McCANN
