aging people, especially women. It (WAR
ROOM) has been a blessing on so many levels.
HimPower: Is this your new norm or
was life pretty much like this for you before
the movie?
Karen Abercrombie: It’s the new norm.
I had my first and only child at 39. I was in
California at the time and things were starting
to take off. I was on my knees for many years,
so I pulled back to take care of the blessing.
I continued to be creative, writing plays and
started a children’s theatre company.
HimPower: Did you feel an immediate connection to the role once you read the
script?
Karen Abercrombie: I really did, I call
it a divine appointment. Several years ago, I
had gone to a Women of Faith Conference
and there was an actress who did these skits
that were so powerful. I said, “God, I want to
be able to do what she does. I don’t want to
be her. I want to be able to do what she does
to your Glory! I am very involved with my
Church’s worship team doing skits at Church. I
believe in using the gifts God has given you to
His glory.
HimPower: Your performance in WAR
ROOM was pivotal in the success of the message the producers wanted to convey. Did you
feel the part was made for you?
Karen Abercrombie: They were two
weeks away from shooting the movie and had
not found the person they wanted to play the
role of Miss Clara. They had interviewed some
well-known gospel artists. When I learned
about the part, I had begun purifying myself,
getting myself prepared spiritually. I was able
to jump into that character so it was a blessing
