The most active and beneficial of the
boswellic acids in the extract is known as
AKBA (Acetyl-11-keto-B-boswellic acid).
However, not all boswellia extracts are
equally beneficial. For example, in unstan-
dardized boswellia products, the AKBA
levels can be very low – sometimes as little
as 1 percent. To make sure you get the best,
look for boswellia standardized to at least 10
percent AKBA.

There is a growing awareness of the
benefits of nutrients for slowing or reversing
disease. In the journal Diabetes Research
and Clinical Practice, researchers concluded
that micronutrients, including vitamins B1,
B2, B6, B12, folic acid, and zinc, among
others could “improve diabetic neuropathy
symptoms.”
The damage done by elevated blood
sugar levels – type 2 diabetes – happens
slowly over time. It is not always noticed
at first. Clearly, a sensible diet and exercise
must be part of your regimen. I have articles
available online that review what I think are
the best forms of each, called “Terry’s Tradi-
tional Diet” and “Terry’s Exercise Plan,”
respectively. Combining these disciplines
with the nutrient ingredients I’ve outlined
here can help you overcome – or even
prevent – the pain, numbness, and tingling
of neuropathy.
I believe a combination of nutrients
is best for treating diabetic neuropathy. I
recommend a boswellia resin extract stan-
dardized for AKBA, alpha lipoic acid, B
vitamins [thiamin and benfotiamine, ribo-
flavin, niacin, vitamin B6 (P-5-P), folate,
vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin), biotin, and
pantothenic acid], along with the chelated
minerals zinc and chromium.
