Who is God
Earnestly Seeking?
by Juliane Wiebracht
L
ast month, I had to make a trip to
the post office. I glanced at my clock
and rushed out the door, arriving
shortly before closing. Strangely, as
I was finishing up, I saw a woman crossing
the parking lot on foot and continuing on
the adjacent highway. I felt like God was
nudging me to stop and help her. I turned
onto the 259, pulling over on the shoulder
and rolling down my window. She had a cell
phone in her hand, bleached blonde hair
and a “Chicago” tattoo in large font on her
arm. I would later find out that she was 35;
though she looked much older. And where
was she headed? To Longview.

I wrestled inside. Selfishly, I did not
feel like driving all that way.
"Longview?" I repeated, still weighing
the inconvenience of her request.
“Yes, but you can just take me as far as
you want to go.”
I told her to hop in.
“I’ve never been picked up by a woman
before. This is weird.” She laughed uncom-
fortably.
It was a telling statement but I wanted
to speak of Jesus, so I quickly shifted our
conversation there. “Jesus has done a lot for
me. I have had some hard times too and
have been on the side of the road before.”
