A golfing haven with nine lives : Richmond Golf Club gears up to host its ninth Australian PGA Seniors Championship
Richmond Golf Course , the oldest and most picturesque in NSW with a rich heritage , is gearing up to host the prestigious Nova Employment 2023 Australian PGA Seniors Championship .
The annual Australian PGA Seniors Championship , a part of the Legends Tour , has found its home at Richmond for the past eight years . This tournament boasts a generous victory prize of $ 150k , and attracts senior players from around the globe .
The defending champion , Richard Green , who went on to win successive tournaments in the US straight after his victory at Richmond , is expected to return to face off against notable players such as Michael Long , the 2018 champion , Peter Senior , the 2019 champion , Andre Stolz , the 2020 Champion and Guy Wall , the 2021 Champion , to name a few .
The 54-hole tournament , set on a tight and challenging yet beautifully designed course , featuring 5740m par-70 exceptional greens with slight undulations , provides the perfect setting for this championship . The back nine contains , our often referred to , ‘ Amen Corner ,’ which introduces strategic water
hazards , adding an exciting dimension to the game .
Having played host to the prestigious event since 2013 , the calibre and popularity of the Richmond Golf Club is irrefutable , and the quality of champions it has produced over the years stand as a living testament to the event ’ s distinction .
Notably , this year ’ s championship will gain national television coverage , thanks to a partnership with FOX Sports and Kayo , maximising exposure for event sponsors . It will also be streamed worldwide via the PGA Website .
Despite enduring recent challenges like COVID-19 restrictions and the devastating one-in-50- year Hawkesbury-Nepean flood in March 2022 , the championship has not only survived , but thrived . Last year ’ s event drew in an impressive crowd of 600 spectators on its final day alone , reflective of the dedicated following golf has , particularly as an outdoor and naturally socially distanced sport .
The recent modern refurbishments of the course have also enhanced the overall experience for both spectators and players , further solidifying the event ’ s status as a must-attend occasion .
