Losing a tooth as a child can be an exciting thing, however the loss of an adult tooth is quite the opposite. If you are in the unfortunate position of needing a tooth extracted, it is useful to know what the options are once a tooth is gone.
Firstly, there is always the option of leaving the gap. This can be a good option for a single molar, as long as you have plenty of other teeth to chew on. If the tooth is visible when you smile, replacing the tooth is often preferred.
The cheapest and simplest way to replace a tooth is with a partial denture. These are custom-made appliances that are worn during the day and taken out at night.
Bridges are false teeth made from porcelain that attached permanently to the adjacent teeth.

It’ s time for blokes to put their health first

Men’ s Health Week in June served as an important reminder for Australian men and boys to put their health and wellbeing first and start conversations that could save lives.
This year’ s campaign focused on four key issues affecting men across the country: encouraging regular GP visits, improving First Nations men’ s health, raising awareness of bowel cancer and promoting better sexual health.
Despite experiencing higher rates of chronic disease, preventable illness and premature death, many men continue to delay seeking medical attention. Research shows around 60 per cent of men wait more than a week to see a doctor when they experience symptoms, while one in three put off seeking help for more than a month.
To address this, Men’ s Health Week promoted the“ 101 Reasons to See Your GP” campaign by Healthy Male. The initiative encourages men to take a proactive approach to their health through regular check-ups, preventive screening and early treatment when needed.
The campaign also highlighted the ongoing health challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, who continue to experience higher rates of chronic disease, poorer health outcomes and significantly higher rates of suicide than non- Indigenous Australians.
Community-led programs such as Deadly Choices play an important role in encouraging First Nations men to get

now what?

Bridges can be a great option when the adjacent teeth have large fillings and would benefit from a crown.
Lastly, dental implants are a small screw that is anchored into the jaw bone with a porcelain crown attached. They are a great option when we want to leave the adjacent teeth untouched.

regular health checks, stay connected to their communities and seek support early.
Another major focus was bowel cancer, one of Australia’ s most common cancers. Early detection remains one of the most effective ways to improve survival rates, yet many eligible men do not complete the free screening test sent to their homes.
Men’ s sexual health was also in the spotlight. While sexual and reproductive health is a priority under the National Men’ s Health Strategy 2020-2030, many men remain reluctant to discuss concerns with healthcare professionals.
Men’ s Health Week serves as a timely reminder that looking after your health is not a sign of weakness. Whether it’ s booking a GP appointment, completing a screening test or seeking support for physical or mental health concerns, taking action early can make a significant difference.
