More than 60 unique and thoughtprovoking artworks exploring waste, sustainability and the environment have been shortlisted in Hornsby Shire Council’ s 2026 Remagine Art Prize.
The finalist exhibition will showcase an impressive range of artistic disciplines, including Digital Stills, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Photography and Printmaking. Visitors can experience the exhibition at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre from 15 to 31 May.
Hosted by Hornsby Shire Council in partnership with Hornsby Art Society since 2009, the Remagine Art Prize continues to challenge artists to respond creatively to the global waste crisis. This year’ s theme, Built to Expire, shines a spotlight on the growing issue of products designed with limited lifespans- from mobile phones

Through a wide range of artistic interpretations, finalists have explored the environmental impact of disposable culture and encouraged audiences to rethink consumption habits, waste and sustainability. The exhibition not only highlights the talent of participating artists but also sparks important conversations about how individuals and communities can make more environmentally conscious choices.
Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell praised the calibre of entries and the powerful messages behind them.
“ I would like to congratulate all the finalists for their inspiring and thought-provoking artworks that encourage us to rethink waste through art,” Mayor Waddell said.“ The artists have beautifully captured the importance of reuse and repurposing materials through their creative expressions.”
Mayor Waddell added that Council remains committed to preserving the region’ s natural environment for future generations, with initiatives like the Remagine Art Prize playing an important role in raising awareness and inspiring change.
This year’ s respected judges, Ed Woolley and Dario Falzon, will select the winners, with a total prize pool of $ 11,000 on offer. Winners will be announced at the official awards ceremony on Friday, 15 May.
The exhibition will be open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm, at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, 25 Edgeworth David Avenue, Hornsby.
