Recently there were updates to the Age Pension rates and eligibility tests, which means there are a number of older Australians who have just become eligible for a part pension. Maybe that includes you?
If you previously checked the eligibility requirements or applied for the Age Pension, but weren’ t eligible, every April, July and October is the time to check again. The full pension tests are usually only reviewed in July each year, but the tests for partial pensions are indexed twice a year in late March and late September, which usually results in an increase in the cut off limits.
The recent updates on 20 March mean that homeowners with assets less than $ 722,000 for a single person, and $ 1,085,000 for a couple, are now eligible for a part pension. And for nonhomeowners the limits are $ 980,000 for a single, and $ 1,343,000 for a couple. Being eligible for even a tiny amount of part pension also makes you eligible for the Pension Concession Card, which provides lots of discounts from Federal and State governments, easing the burden of high cost of living expenses.
‘ How do I check on my eligibility?’, you might ask. Centrelink has an online calculator, or you can call Jemma at Age Pension Help, and she can quickly check over the phone.
