CLOTHES SWAP A HIT!
With so much clothing ending up in landfill and recycling a key focus of Soroptimist International of The Hills’ environmental advocacy, members teamed up with The Hills Shire Council to host a community clothes swap. The event provided locals with a chance to offer quality items they no longer needed and exchange them for something new-tothem, helping reduce waste while supporting sustainable fashion.
On the night, Bex from Second Life Upcycling delivered an engaging visual presentation, sharing simple, practical tips on how to refresh and repurpose clothing rather than discard it. Her demonstration highlighted how easy it can be to update garments with small alterations, creative ideas and thoughtful reuse.
To keep the evening running smoothly, participants were asked to bring no more than five items, ensuring they were in good condition and purchased fairly recently. This helped maintain a high standard of clothing on display and made the swapping process enjoyable for everyone.
Members were thrilled with the strong turnout. With the Council generously providing space for the displays and several staff offering hands-on support, the collaboration proved highly successful.
As wardrobes are refreshed with
each new season, more clothes swaps are planned. Soroptimist International of The Hills looks forward to working with Council staff again and appreciates the enthusiastic support from the local community.
