2025 Volunteer of the Year Awards
Presenting the 2025 Volunteer of the Year Awards. |
with Ray Williams MP Member for Kellyville
It was fantastic attending the 2025 North Western Sydney Volunteer of the Year Awards at Castle Hill RSL Club, where I met the most incredible people being recognised for doing amazing things in the community. In particular, Mackenzie Woodbury who was named the Young Volunteer of the Year. Mackenzie is a training and radio communication officer with Hawkesbury Communications Rural Fire Brigade and Hawkesbury RFS headquarters.
For seven years she has provided training support, equipment checks and also acts as a community engagement officer. Mackenzie has cerebral palsy and is also an

Air Force cadet at Richmond RAAF. Well done Mackenzie!
Planning Reform and workers compensation debate After having spoken in Parliament about Planning Reform- I joined The Telegraph’ s State Political Editor, James O’ Doherty, to debate the reform as well as NSW’ s controversial workers compensation bill alongside Labor MP Greg Warren, Member for Campbelltown.
While we both agree the planning system needs to be streamlined, I raised concerns- on behalf of the Coalition- about ensuring that any reforms do not sideline community consultation.
As for the workers compensation scheme, I am adamant that entitlements for those

workers who have experienced the worst in society and suffered severe trauma that has impacted their ability to ever work again should not have their benefits removed. To watch the full debate, visit my website: raywilliamsmp. com. au Say no to toll increases Drivers commuting from The Hills to the city each workday can spend roughly 11 % of their average income on tolls.
Last month, Chris Minns broke his promise to make tolls cheaper and has scrapped the $ 60 weekly toll cap, which will directly affect the hip pocket of residents in our area.
Call on Labor to stick to their election commitments and provide toll relief for Sydney commuters. Sign the petition: nswliberal. org. au / tollrelief

2025 Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum
with Alex Hawke Federal Member for Mitchell
Together with Tristan Smith, Chief Executive Officer, it was a privilege to host another 160 student leaders from across 18 schools at the 24th Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum. The 2025 Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum held on 16-18 October at The Y, Yarramundi was an incredible success. The Forum is a two and a half day live-in program for Year 11 students, based on the values of integrity, service and courage.
The students who attended brought an immeasurable amount of energy, enthusiasm, and passion to the Forum. It was incredible to watch their growth throughout the event and I can’ t wait to follow their success back at their schools and within our wider community.
Students participated in team building activities, small group discussions, and a community service project at Aminya Village, McCall Gardens and Riding for the Disabled( NSW) Association-Tall Timbers Centre. Throughout the Forum, they also listened to inspiring talks from Lucinda Harvey, Sally Hurst, Chris Lee, Matt Kershaw and Rob Kennaugh.
I would like to thank our devoted volunteer team consisting of over 70 leaders and committee members who work tirelessly throughout the year and over the two and a half days to support these students.
Their passion and dedication in developing
the next generation of leaders is nothing short of admirable and the Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum would not be possible without them. These leaders are exceptional examples for the students and display the forum’ s values of service, integrity and courage throughout their daily lives.
The Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum Committee are an amazing group of young people who have an incredible passion and commitment in developing the next generation of leaders.
I commend and thank; Tristan Smith, Ronie Quinn, Steve Edwards, Jan Cox, Ged Lewis, Thomas Kelly, Jessie Peake, Ken Shaw, Daniel Ridley, Marcus Cannon, Veneta Webster, Jane Porto, Lauren Nowacka and Simon Teh.
We would also like to thank our valued sponsors; our major sponsors, Nature’ s Sunshine Australia, Castle Towers, and sponsors; Redeemer Baptist School and The Hills Lodge for their continuing commitment to the future of our student leaders.
