It is clear that Hills’ residents have had enough! More than 20,000 signed up to fight council’ s petition on the NSW Parliament’ s website for better roads, more schools and more sports fields. Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said the Fight for a Fairer Hills Future campaign meant the NSW Government could no longer claim they’ re doing enough to support Hills residents’ needs, p4.
In September Ray Williams MP presented the petition to Parliament, together with MPs from neighboring localities. The lack of infrastructure needs to be addressed to support the number of people- 60,000 over the next five years- that the NSW Government want to place in our Shire, as well as existing residents, p21.
School holidays are upon us and there is an exciting array of activities on offer for children, teens and families. There are games, environment workshops, nature activities, and art therapy to name a few. A first in The Hills is council partnering with the NRL during Grand Final week at the new Kellyville Memorial Park, home of the Parramatta Eels Centre of Excellence, p9.
Hornsby Shire Council is also presenting an array of community events as part of its Hello Hornsby initiative. This started as a program for over 60s but today provides a wonderful opportunity for residents of all ages to connect, p16. Want to know about the intricate world of wood? Take a scenic drive to the Hawkesbury and visit the Woodwork and Artisan Show later this month. The artistry and skill of local craftspeople will be on show plus demonstrations and displays, p15.
On the health front, Professor Buchanan, CEO Dementia Australia, talks about the many things you can do to thwart this debilitating condition, p19.
