July is a great month to get wrapped up warm and toasty and enjoy the outdoors; there is no shortage of local events. NAIDOC celebrations, All Holden Day and the Mineral & Gem Show are all happening.

This year’ s theme for NAIDOC, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, celebrates the achievements of the past and the brightness of the future. Hills Shire residents are invited to mark NAIDOC Week with a vibrant celebration of First Nations culture at Yarn at The Farm – a day filled with free cultural experiences, hands-on workshops, traditional arts and crafts, market stalls, live music, sport, and Indigenous-inspired cuisine. Yarn at The Farm is on Thursday, 10 July, from 10am to 2pm at Bella Vista Farm, p10.

The annual State Gem & Mineral Show, Saturday 13 September 9am-5pm and Sunday 29th September 9am-4pm returns to the Hawkesbury Showground. This amazing display of items attracts traders from across the country, let your eyes feast on the tables full of gemstones, jewelry, opals, crystals( to name a few), learn something new and pick up a gift for yourself or a friend, p23.

The much-loved NSW All Holden Day is back Sunday 3 August. This 37th annual event, which hosts the largest collection of Holdens on display anywhere in the world is sure to go off with a boom, p12.

Cockayne Reserve in Castle Hill is now completed and provides fantastic recreational opportunities for Hills’ residents and better pedestrian access between local streets. The $ 6.6 million project was jointly funded by the NSW Government and Council, p4.

Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell and others attended the ribbon-cutting and official opening of Greenway Park Sports Precinct, Cherrybrook on Saturday 14 June. There is a lot of excitement from sporting clubs and the community about the transformation of this busy sports facility, p8.
