Christmas , new year and Australia Day celebrations have come and gone but our Shire has lots of other things on the cards !
The Hills Lunar Festival , on 8 February at Arthur Whitling Park is a wonderful afternoon of entertainment , dancing and mouth-watering food . The festival is a delight for our senses and transports us into a world of colour and sound where we can learn about this vibrant community ’ s culture and spirit . Go along and celebrate the Year of the Snake , p7 .
Staying on entertainment , Hornsby Shire Council is pleased to welcome back its popular series of Food Truck Fridays during February and March , p17 . Wahroonga is hosting its inaugural Sparkling Wahroonga Food + Wine Festival on Sunday 2 March , p18 .
Through the Community Building Partnership ( CBP ) Program , ( NSW Government ) $ 450,000 in grants will soon be available to support projects that enhance local infrastructure and benefit the communities in Castle Hill , p12 .
Local heroes who selflessly give their time to community , the environment , and groups involving youth and seniors were acknowledged and celebrated at the Hills Shire Council ’ s Australia Day Awards last month , and what an amazing group of people they are , p17 .
Our Finest column this month focuses on an incredible charity that serves the needs of many struggling families . Love For Australia is a family-run charity in Seven Hills . It is dedicated to supplying families in need with grocery and household items . Everything is free . Florence Lee – Gunawan , one of the founders , says they want to provide a friendly , stress free experience when people go to shop . Shoppers make an individual appointment to visit so they can take their time choosing items and chat to the owners . What an amazing initiative this is .
