Twenty-one years ago , Ami Patel moved to Australia from India with her new husband who was studying in Australia . They decided the move was to be an adventure , leaving behind the comforts of their well-established lives in India to explore a new chapter in Australia . The young couple didn ’ t plan to settle down permanently in Australia , but like many people who move here , the appeal of the lifestyle is simply too strong to return to their country of origin .
Ami explained why they found Australia so enticing when they could have an easier life in India with the help of their parents .
“ We were young , just married , and eager to do something on our own . Back in India , we had nothing to prove ; our life was comfortable . But coming to Australia , we started with nothing and there was this fire in us to make something of ourselves .”
Ami was excited about the opportunities and freedom she found in Australia . Initially both Ami and her husband worked in finance , banking and corporate jobs and their understanding of finance led them into investing into Subway franchises to gain an extra income stream for their family .

Ami realised she could help others achieve financial freedom by becoming a buyer ’ s agent , an option which wasn ’ t available to her family when they began to invest in property .
“ When we started , there weren ’ t any buyer ’ s agents to guide us . I thought , ‘ Why not be that person for someone else ?’” Her journey to become a buyer ’ s agent didn ’ t happen overnight . She had to gain experience by working with an established agent , took rigorous training , and obtained her real estate license . She then became a member of the Buyer ’ s Agent Institute and the National Buyers Association , which requires its members continue to study to ensure professional development .
Not being too familiar with what a buyer ’ s agent was I asked the obvious question , what is the difference between a buyer ’ s agent and a real estate agent , which Ami was only too happy to explain to me .
