Old Man ’ s Valley , part of Hornsby Shire Council ’ s ambitious Hornsby Park project , will come alive as a vibrant Field of Play thanks to a Thriving Communities grant from the Australian Government .
Hornsby Shire Mayor , Warren Waddell said the project has been provided $ 12 million , to be matched by Council through development contributions , for over 7,000 square metres of new multipurpose recreational green space , becoming Hornsby ’ s new backyard .
“ Following the announcement of the Hornsby Transport Oriented Development Precinct , we ’ re excited that this grant will provide an important connection to green space and opportunities for recreation for people living in the surrounding highdensity areas , as well as those from across the Shire and beyond ,” said Mayor Waddell .
The Field of Play will enhance the lives of residents new and old through :
- A playing field for a range of recreational activities
- Accessible amenities including car parking , bathroom facilities and change rooms , picnic hubs , dog exercise area
- Bike pump track -a circuit track used by mountain bikes and BMX , skateboards and wheelchairs
- Activations and cultural events
“ Hornsby Park is where the city meets the bush . I ’ m proud that by securing these funds , it will allow us to deliver a significant component of the park ’ s masterplan early , providing wellbeing , social and economic benefits to the community ,” continued Mayor Waddell .
“ We thank the Australian Government for its help in accelerating this important project .”
The largest single project ever undertaken by Hornsby Shire Council , Hornsby Park , a major recreation destination , is being created on the site of the former Hornsby Quarry . It will feature approximately 60 hectares of bushland and open space and include features of historical and community interest .
As per the Master Plan adopted in July 2021 , Hornsby Park will be delivered in stages within a financially responsible framework consistent with Council ’ s prudent financial management . The first stage at the historic Crusher Plant will open next year with the Field of Play at Old Man ’ s Valley expected to be delivered over the next three years .
