A love of learning begins at Northholm

Northholm Grammar welcomes your child into a community where individuality shines and dreams are encouraged . A life-long learning journey begins in Kindergarten , with those very first steps onto our spacious and vibrant grounds .
Our idyllic campus , nestled in stunning natural bushland , is a hidden gem that complements our distinctive education . It is a safe place , a lively and stimulating space for learning , where every child ’ s unique character is nurtured amid the calming natural surrounds .
Perhaps best of all , it ’ s where character is developed and lifelong friendships are forged . Whatever their passion , it ’ s all about excitement and discovery for Northholm Grammar ’ s youngest learners . Explicit instruction is the foundation of our professional practice to ensure students understand real-life concepts in a meaningful way combined with building the skills in literacy and numeracy . Here ’ s how we do it : Strong Foundations Northholm Grammar guarantees each student quality , personalised learning , with a focus on the fundamentals right from the start . Our caring teachers tailor learning in engaging and energetic ways to develop solid foundational skills in reading , writing and numeracy . Making Magic At Northholm Grammar , your child will explore an abundance of
space , complemented by learning that harnesses their natural curiosity and energy . Kindergarten students begin to find the talents and interests that will bring them joy in the classroom and in co-curricular opportunities that develop connection and cooperation skills . Our hands-on approach to learning ensures we tackle each lesson with rigour - we get messy , we learn from mistakes , we share and we discover the magic in working together . Early Years adventures include : Animals and Nature We have our very own farm with animals to care for and cuddle . There are so many beautiful benefits flowing from the farm . Aside from the calming effect of caring for the animals , there is the wonder of learning about their different needs and habitats , and the tangible pride in having responsibility towards the farm , the animals and their upkeep . Students also enjoy the hands-on experiments and learning in our dazzling Sensory Garden as well as sampling their efforts with regular Cook ‘ n ’ Grow activities . Creative and Performing Arts Northholm ’ s young artists , musicians , actors and dancers develop their creativity through music , drama and visual arts .
As well as developing foundational concepts and skills in these areas , students also build confidence and discover a love of self-expression and self- discipline . Activities involve talking , listening ,
experimental play using their bodies , resources , voices and instruments , and decision making . Early Primary Years students benefit from being included in lessons with older Primary and Secondary School students and have the chance to perform with them in Northholm ’ s spectacular showcases and other events . Sport Kindergarten sport develops movement and coordination as well as teamwork and persistence . The inclusive nature of Northholm ’ s sports program – delivered by specialist Physical Education teachers promotes a positive attitude towards health and fitness and a love of physical activity .
The program also incorporates Personal Development lessons covering physical literacy and character . Co-Curricular Clubs Social skills and relationships flourish when students explore similar interests together . A wide range of co-curricular opportunities are offered each year and , through these clubs , our early learners also interact with students across other year groups to develop a variety of lasting friendships .
Clubs may include , subject to interest , Drawing Club , Animal Club , Cook ’ n ’ Grow , Sky Club , String Ensemble , Tennis , Netball and Cricket Club . Buddy Program The Northholm Grammar Buddy Program introduces , and
gives children the opportunity to practice , the ‘ Our School ’ values of learning through scholarship , caring for others and self , living a faithful life and contributing to the community . Kindergarten students are partnered with Year 6 leaders , who care for and support the younger children through activities in the classroom and playground . This connectedness allows for a closer bond between both age groups and with Northholm Grammar , leading to developing skills in empathy and compassion , to create an environment of positive social behaviour .
Kindergarten students have the opportunity to meet their buddy during Orientation Day in the year prior to starting school . Having established this connection , Year 6 students welcome their Kindergarten buddies on the first day of school , providing a friendly and familiar face as they walk through the gates . Buddies continue to work together and build their connections throughout the year in a range of settings and activities . Mindful Matters Our young students not only flourish in this environment but are better able to maintain focus and take safe risks without fear of failure in the classroom and the playground . We take care to develop key pillars of resilience : gratitude , empathy and mindfulness to build a sense of calm and awareness of surroundings and each other .
