The power of looking backwards

This article isn ’ t going to send you to the chiropractor , but it might help you take stock of the year which is coming to an end .
2022 was the first time in two years that we had our full freedom to travel and meet with friends and family since Covid struck at the end of 2019 , I hope it was a good one for you and your family ! It can be fun to look back on a year and see what you have done ; social media makes this very easy these days as you can check photos and posts to remind you of where you have been and what you were up to .
If you need a place to start you can think about your health , relationships , family , career or education , family , spirituality , finances and how they were across the year . Were you in excellent health , but struggled with your
relationships , maybe you got a new job and increased your income ? Whatever happened , it can be useful to reflect on these important areas .
Sometimes we get so focused on our struggles that it can be hard to think of the good things , so take some time and write a ‘ Tah Dah ’ list of all the things you or your kids have achieved over 2022 , it could be passing exams , learning to ride a bike , reading a certain number of books , sporting achievements , finding a job , whatever you see as important and worth remembering .
If photos are your thing , there are lots of websites and shops that can make up photo books for you , you just upload your images online and wait for your memories to be posted back to you in an album .
If your year has been a difficult one , you can still get something out of it . Think about the issues you have faced and consider if there are things you could have done differently or what you need to do to make 2023 better , then try to set up something to make that happen .
In all I hope that 2022 was a good year for you and your family , and that 2023 brings with it more joy and happiness .
Take time to reflect on 2022 before the New Year .
Berowra Waters , right on the doorstep of the Hills area is a magical place to take the family or friends . Located on the Hawkesbury River , Berowra Waters offers a range of activities such as boating , fishing , kayaking , camping , swimming , crabbing , dining , hiking and much more .
The unique water-access only holiday accommodation puts you right in amongst the beautiful bushlands that surrounds the area . The national parks and state forests are full of wonderful flora and fauna plus aboriginal rock carvings and middens , which can be seen along the Great North Walk .
Holidaying in a house along the river you will have access to your own motorised boat ( no license required as you will be instructed how to use it ), and kayaks to explore the river , plus fishing rods and crab traps to try your luck . But wait there is more ! On Christmas Eve Santa visits the residents and guests along the river . This 80-year-old tradition is a sight to see . Santa rocks up in a highly decorated boat , complete with lights and
music and drops off sacks of toys to all the children . It makes for a great photo opportunity .
The Berowra Waters Boat Hire shop ( www . berowrawatersboathire . com . au offers a range of boats and kayaks for hire . Free gas BBQs are dotted around the park and there is an enclosed playground for the kids . If you happen to be down on Christmas Eve you will see Santa at the boat ramp before he heads off up the river . Contact Sue if you would like to arrange a Santa sack for you kids .

Christmas – a special time of giving and receiving with Rotary

This Christmas , the Rotary Club of The Hills – Kellyville are giving families a chance to both give and receive . By coming to one of two easy locations , Hills families can ‘ receive ’ a wonderful fresh , real Christmas tree . The ‘ giving ’ part is that 100 % of the profit from your Christmas tree purchase will go to great Rotary works in the local community and beyond .
The Christmas tree sale dates are across 3 weekends in December
- Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th December
- Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th December
- Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th December ( the last days subject to Christmas tree stock ) In two locations over both weekends :
- The Bull & Bush Hotel ( car park ), cnr Windsor Rd & Seven Hills Rd , Baulkham Hills
- The Ettamogah Hotel ( car park ), cnr Windsor Rd & Merriville Rd , Kellyville Ridge
Both locations are easy to get to with plenty of space to park and select a Christmas tree and our Rotary team will load them up for you or they can organise delivery . The finest of Christmas Trees are sourced from NSW farms around Sydney and are freshly delivered each weekend .
Another way to give back to the community through The Rotary Club of The Hills-Kellyville this Christmas is ‘ The Giving Tree ” located at Grove Square ( formerly Stockland Mall ), Baulkham Hills . The Giving Tree has supported those in need at Christmas for more than two decades and this year up to 200 gifts will go to children and young adults at three women ’ s refuges .
Funds from Christmas Tree sales raised go entirely to projects of The Rotary Club of the Hills-Kellyville . Local programs include literacy initiatives for students and a local community garden , and the club continues to fund the Bourke Public School Breakfast Club project , which has helped increase school attendance .
