Herrmann Tiles is a family business that started in 1968 by German immigrants , Willi and Ilse Herrmann .
The business today is still very much an Australian owned and operated family concern .
Herrmann Tiles is a retail outlet in Western Sydney ( an easy drive from Penrith , Windsor , Richmond and The Blue Mountains ). It trades in wall and floor tiles and associated products such as tile adhesives , sealers , cleaners , tools , and bathroom accessories .
The business supplies to the public , builders and tilers . Herrmann Tiles ’ main function is to provide a quality range of floor and wall tiles to the consumer as well as offering the type of service that only
|
decades of experience can provide . The Herrmann family migrated to Australia in March 1964 . Initially , Willi and Ilse worked as subcontractors tiling for a building firm .
During the five years they worked for the builders , Ilse became the first licensed female tiler in NSW .
The couple complemented the fixing of tiles with supplying tiles to customers , making their jobs easier .
From this W & I Herrmann Wall and Floor Tilers was formed .
In the early 1970s the business branched out further into retail with Willi and Ilse giving the fixing side of the business away completely . But , customers still needed tiles laid . It was here they
|
started recommending tilers to customers they had supplied tiles to and the tilers in turn would purchase their laying materials and accessories from W & I Herrmann . This mutually beneficial system still operates today .
In 1982 the business became Herrmann Tiles and soon after daughter Barbel became involved in the day to day operations .
In 1994 son Peter joined to make this a real family affair . And now Barbel ’ s son Robbie has also become involved , keeping the family tradition alive .
Amazingly , the business still has tiles from the 60s 70s and 80s for fixing those little problems , as well as
|
the newest styles around . Today Herrmann Tiles is in the same ( albeit much , much larger ) location it started in all those years ago , and whilst Ilse is semiretired , she is never too far away , keeping an eye on the family legacy . |
