Service of Remembrance for families and friends of children who have died or are missing
St Matthew ’ s Anglican Church West Pennant Hills are holding their annual Service of Remembrance for families and friends of children who have died or are missing on Tuesday 6 December commencing at 7.30pm .
The aim of the service is to provide hope and support for the families whose children have died or are missing . It is always difficult living in a world without one of your children but on special occasions it is particularly difficult . Christmas is a very special occasion ; it is a time of celebration – a time when families come together . This can cause a family whose child has died or is missing to feel isolated and quite alone , even in the presence of friends .
The speaker this year will be Bishop Chris Edwards . During the service those present will be invited to place a flower
on the communion table in recognition of the life of the child who died or is missing . There will also be a tribute list where the names and ages of the children will be read and displayed on the screens . There will be representatives of several denominations participating in the service .
Following the service supper will be served as this has proved to be a wonderful time of fellowship , in the past . People who have never met before gain comfort from being with and speaking with those who share that common bond – the love for their children .
The desire is to have the children of all families recognised during the service , if you would like to have your family included , please email the full name / s and their age to office @ stmatts . org . au or call 0420 527 272 as soon as possible .
Anyone is welcome to join us for the service – those who have lost a child , friends of those who have lost a child and those who would simply like to support the service .
The service will also be offered to people online @ www . stmatts . org . au / events / remember . For more information please call 0420 527 272 or email office @ stmatts . org . au .
Community Recycling Centre to be investigated for The Hills
The Hills Shire Council has resolved to prepare a report on the feasibility of , and potential locations for , a Community Recycling Centre ( CRC ) as a permanent drop-off centre for common household wastes that cannot be collected via kerbside waste and recycling collection services .
CRCs collect items including paint , gas bottles , fire extinguishers , motor oils , car batteries , household batteries , smoke detectors and fluorescent globes and tubes and residents can drop off these problem wastes at centres year-round , free of charge .
Mayor of The Hills Shire Dr Peter Gangemi said councils and other organisations operate the centres in partnership with the NSW Environment and Protection Authority ( EPA ).
“ The Hills Shire Council is proud to be leaders in the environmental sector , but we are always looking to do more for the environment and the community . A Community Recycling Centre potentially has large benefits for everyone ,” Mayor Gangemi said .
“ I would like to congratulate Councillor Boneham and Councillor Cox for bringing this initiative to Council ,” he said .
Councillor Rosemarie Boneham said : “ I ’ m really pleased with the possibility of The Hills having its own
Mayor Gangemi ( r ) with Councillors Rosemarie Boneham and Jerome Cox .
Community Recycling Centre . It will offer residents a convenient way to repurpose some of their waste ; a win for the environment and a win for ratepayers .”
Councillor Jerome Cox stated : “ There is significant community interest in having a permanent recycling centre and I am happy that Council is looking into the feasibility of achieving this .”
Recent representative community consultation ( more than 2000 respondents ) undertaken as part of the development of Council ’ s Resource Recovery Delivery Program 2022-2027 found that 92 per cent of residents were supportive of a local CRC .
