Q & A WITH CANDIDATES

Alex Hawke - Liberal for Mitchell

Residential development growth is putting pressure on existing community and social services . How will your party address this , particularly for veterans and aged pensioners ?
Our veterans have given so much in their service to our country .
The Government is ensuring our more than 320,000 veterans and their families are supported and respected .
This includes : free lifetime mental health care for ADF personnel ; immediate income support for those with mental health claims ; psychiatric assistance dogs for veterans with PTSD ; and the expansion of counselling support through Open Arms .
The Government is providing an additional $ 70.5 million in funding to support homecare services for 37,000 veterans and their families , as well as extending other programs supporting the wellbeing and mental health of our veterans . We have implemented fairer indexation for military superannuants , expanded our Veterans ’ Employment Program and introduced a new Australian Veterans ’ Card and Lapel Pin . Our welfare system provides an important safety net for over 2.5 million age pensioners .
Income Support for seniors is increasing by $ 6.7 billion – from $ 50.1 billion in 2019-20 to $ 56.8 billion in 2022-23 . The 2022 Budget provided cost of living relief with a one-off $ 250 cost of living payment for more than 6 million Australians including pensioners , veterans , eligible selffunded retirees and concession card holders .
Older Australians have also been supported by a reduction in deeming rates ( which are used to help calculate income from assets and eligibility for pensions ).

Residential development growth is putting pressure on existing community and social services . How will your party address this , particularly for veterans and aged pensioners ? The United Australia Party ( UAP ) will be increasing the aged pension to $ 180.00 per fortnight and will link all service pensions to male total average earnings . UAP will expand all gold card benefits to all peacekeepers and benefits will be automatically delivered to spouses of all veterans for the term of their life . We will also inject $ 40 billion dollars directly into Australian hospitals and health care services .
How will your party keep a district known as the Garden Shire ‘ green ’, manage its parks , waterways and green spaces with mega development constructions like the Gables , Hills Showground and Castle Towers redevelopment ?
As a resident and mother living in our electorate , I will personally support initiatives that help our shire remain “ green ”. It is important that our local environment is protected so our plants and wildlife flourish and future generations can continue to enjoy our electorate ’ s parks and waterways .
How will your party keep a district known as the Garden Shire ‘ green ’, manage its parks , waterways and green spaces with mega development constructions like the Gables , Hills Showground and Castle Towers redevelopment ?
More social infrastructure , parks and playing fields are absolutely needed to meet the influx of new people coming I continue to strongly advocate for our community ensuring a commitment to work with State and Local Governments to have ‘ green ’ spaces throughout our district .
How will your party invest in keeping jobs local ?
In February , the unemployment rate fell to just 4 per cent - equal lowest level in 48 years .
Locally , over the past two years the Coalition has invested over $ 4 million in funding to our local manufacturers supporting businesses to scale-up , introduce new products to market , strengthen our supply chains and create more local jobs .
How will your party protect public education funding and opportunities given the amount of exclusive , cashed up private schools in the district ?
Over the next four years , the Coalition Government will invest in more than $ 180 billion in education , with record funding for schools and preschools .
Since coming to office , we have almost doubled school funding – from $ 13 billion in 2013 , to $ 25 billion in 2022 . This means average funding per student is up by 65 per cent over a decade .
Parents can see for themselves funding increases at their local school , at the Department of Education ’ s School Funding Estimator : www . dese . gov . au / schoolfunding / estimator We are focused on enhancing outcomes for students , so they have the best start in life .
How will your party invest in keeping jobs local ?
UAP will stop the provisional tax being paid in advance by Australian businesses before profits have been made . This will improve cash flow of local businesses , allowing them to prosper and hire more staff .
I am active in the small business community and support a number of business initiatives and plan on extending my support wherever I can . UAP will cap home loan interest rates at 3 per cent for the next five years in order to save Australians ’ homes .
This will benefit small business owners as many have mortgaged their homes against their business loan .
How will your party protect public education funding and opportunities given the amount of exclusive , cashed up private schools in the district ?
UAP inject 20 billion dollars into schools and refine policies to make higher education more affordable and accessible . This will provide opportunities for the next generation of innovators , professionals , entrepreneurs and ideally solve shortages of some of these services locally .
