THE POWER OF ... SERIES
The power of more
by Lorna Gordon
Many of us start our new year with an attitude of less , setting new year resolutions to change our lives . We might want to drink less alcohol , eat less chips or chocolate , have less mess , carry less weight . Many of us fail at reaching these goals because it ’ s hard to keep resolutions when you feel deprived of food or drinks you like , and not much time to spend on yourself or your family .
But what if we flipped the idea on its head and encouraged ourselves to have more ? Human beings like more , abundance makes us feel secure and happy , but how can you reach your goals by having more , is it even possible ?
Well , it depends on how you do it , instead of thinking I need to drink less wine or beer , how about thinking I need to drink more water . Less chips and chocolate can be transformed into more fruit , veggies and nuts . Less weight could start with more movement , less mess can be transformed with more tidying .
By flipping your less on its head you are coming up with a solution , rather than focusing on the problem . Focusing on the solution makes it easier to achieve and a far more pleasant experience for you . You can build your habits around your day-to-day life , if you know you can fit in your exercise four days a week you plan for that . If you want to track what you do during the week , then you make your changes to suit .
Sometimes it helps to have a bit of extra help to focus on more of the things you would like to do . If you want to do this , habit trackers are a great way of keeping note of your achievement ’ s day by day ; you can find plenty printable ones online .
The benefit of this kind of tracking is that you enjoy watching yourself build on your habits , and it can work on the principle of not breaking your chain of achievement . The more you do the thing , the more you want to keep doing it .
So , what will you do more of this year ? More reading and less scrolling , more walking and less sitting , more cycling and less driving , or maybe it ’ s more vegetarian food and less meat . Whatever your more is , make sure you enjoy yourself doing it .
