OUT & ABOUT

Hawkesbury Regional Gallery is going on a summer holiday !

‘ We ’ re all going on a summer holiday !’ is on at the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery , 300 George St , Windsor . This is a special exhibition , the result of a collaboration between the Gallery and Nepean TAFE Visual Arts .
Cath Barcan , Head Teacher Visual Arts says : “ This has been a wonderful and tangible professional opportunity for our students and alumni to work with the team at the Regional Gallery . We are very lucky to have such a strong arts community in the region .”
The artists in their final year of diploma or who have developed their own art practice since graduation were asked to respond to the notion of a summer holiday – a particularly poignant question after the past couple of years .
We all need a collective summer holiday ! What ’ s the first memory that springs to mind when you reminisce about your holidays ? Long car journeys ? Bunk beds ? The Maccas pit stop ? Staying up late ? BIG Bananas , Rams and Pineapples ? Backyard cricket ? Salty hair and skin ? Making friends ? Mosquitoes ? Sunburn ? Most of us will have a least one of these things cemented in our Australian holiday memories . What about your first trip overseas ( if you ’ ve been fortunate enough to travel that far ). Do you remember how exhilarating it was to board that plane knowing that you were leaving Australian soil to discover a new culture , meet new people and see things

you ’ ve only ever dreamt of seeing ? Holidays form the basis of our best stories and we remember the good ones . Two of the artists Nicole Ashton and Sarah Mitchell , worked with the education and public programs team to create a fabulous holiday themed drop in space for children , and the young at heart !
The oceanic area reminds visitors of swimming and snorkelling , with corals , turtles and fish . There are art and craft activities set out for anyone to have a go with , so come on in and have some fun .
There are 11 artists in the exhibition who have created works in a variety of media from photography to ceramics , painting , installation and drawing . Ilona Bruckard , Annette Bukovinsky , Sarah Frost , Lynn Godfree , Chris Hunter , Freya Jobbins , Elisha Schnell , Mike Wall , Bianca Walsh , Teresina White , Annette Wilcox .
Hawkesbury Regional Museum is continuing the theme of holidays and fun ! As we all need a bit of levity at the moment . Paradise Lost is a wonderful look at the Fun Park that was Paradise Gardens , based at Cattai in the heyday of Australian theme parks in the 1970s and 80s .
From the ‘ Birdman ’ competitions to see how far you could ‘ fly ’ in a homemade contraption , to the swings and roundabouts , life-size dinosaurs , boat tours , train rides , cave walks , to an enchanted forest to explore . It ’ s amazing how many people have memories of coming to the region for a day out in the gardens .
There were even The Guinness Book of Records attempts held there in 1983 and 1984 . Sadly , it closed at the start of 1986 .
The Paradise Lost exhibition includes memorabilia including
