Are laser printers cheaper to run than ink jets ?

with Jeff Harper Cartridge World Castle Hill
The answer is complicated with lots of variables .
All my replies are based on you needing a multifunction printer , scanner and copier .
If you don ’ t need colour printing , then there is no doubt a low priced laser printer is the one for you ! It gets tricky when we get to colour . If you don ’ t print very often - you run the risk of ink jet cartridges going dry , so regardless of the cost of running , it ’ s a nuisance and depressing to be replacing cartridges that you have not actually used .
A laser printer never dries out because it uses powder , therefore it ’ s already dry . So , if finances are not an issue a colour laser printer is the best bet ; about $ 500 - $ 550 .
If you are a medium user - if a ream of paper is used within two months than I would class you as a medium user . A well-priced ( over $ 200 ) ink jet printer vs laser is something to seriously consider . Why ?
Well , for a start laser printers have
the following items that are not in an ink jet printer ; fuser , drum units , transfer belts and toner waste bottle . All of these cost money and will eventually need to be replaced . Also , toner cartridges are very expensive per set , at least $ 500 , as opposed to approximately $ 200 for a set of inks , with very similar number of pages to a laser printer .

LAW LEGAL & ORDER MATTERS

The ins and outs of AVOs

with Joseph Sampson of McDonnell Schroder
There are two broad types of Apprehended Violence Orders ( or AVOs ) made in NSW , each for different situations . Where parties are or have been in a domestic relationship , an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order ( ADVO ) may be made . In all other cases , Apprehended Personal Violence Orders ( APVOs ) are made .
If you find yourself facing either type of order , it is very important to know what your obligations are .
In terms of AVO proceedings , the person who is meant to be protected by the order is called a “ protected person ” or sometimes a “ PINOP ” ( person in need of protection ). This person does not have any obligations under an AVO and their movement or behaviour is not restrained in any way by an AVO .
The only person restricted by an AVO is the defendant , who must comply with the conditions that are imposed . So , a protected person does not commit a breach of an AVO if they phone a defendant , even if the AVO does not allow the defendant to contact the protected person .
However , if the opposite happened – the defendant called the protected person when a condition of the AVO prohibits this – they could be charged with a breach . Such a breach can even occur if the protected person invites or requests the defendant to do something that is contrary to the AVO – and only the defendant would find themselves in trouble .
A “ protected person ” is not the only one who is actually covered by the conditions of an AVO . Those protections also extend to anyone with whom the protected person is in a domestic relationship . This may automatically include children , new partners or housemates .
Clearly , there can be huge flow on effects from being subject to an AVO . If you find yourself in this situation , there is no substitute for getting proper legal advice on your obligations – and options . Contact McDonnell Schroder on 9622 1155 .
