Gardens a ’ bloom with winners

Gardens across The Hills were judged in all their spring glory for the annual Sydney Hills Garden Competition . One of the few events that didn ’ t go into lockdown , the competition , run by the Rotary Club of The Hills- Kellyville , is intrinsically linked to the Orange Blossom Festival . It has run since 1959 .
Gardens were judged by professional horticulturists including Ross Miller and Lucia Fowler , with winners receiving their awards from Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne and Castle Hill MP Ray Williams .
“ Even with all the variable weather , we saw magnificent gardens . Every year we are delightfully surprised by the sheer beauty that ’ s created by the hard work of proud gardeners of the Hills District ,” judge , Ross Miller said . Winners :

Carolyn Packer ’ s Stompin ’ Rhythm Aces will get you moving at Jazz at the Pines in February .
Jazz at the Pines is about great jazz music in a great setting , says Rotary Club of The Hills-Kellyville president , Thomas Cann .
He invites everyone to experience their next event – Carolyn Packer ’ s Stompin ’ Rhythm Aces , at historic Roughley House ( aka The Pines ) on Sunday , 20 February .
Enjoy traditional New Orleans , early blues , boogie woogie , swing and gypsy jazz numbers with the driving beat of the rhythm section .
Apart from the outstanding talent and venue , what ’ s so great about Jazz at the Pines is the net proceeds from these events is put back into the club ’ s Rotary projects .
“ You can sit outside in a relaxed environment , unwind and spend a Sunday afternoon with family and friends enjoying good food and beverages , as well as great music ,” Mr Cann said .
“ Under the pines in the historic garden setting is a perfect favourite for the many visitors who come back time and time again .”
Roughley House , which is also known as The Pines , is one of Dural ’ s most historic buildings in the shire . It was built in 1856 and has been associated with the Roughley family for more than 150 years .
Clive Roughley bequeathed the property to the community before his death in 2002 .
The band starts playing at 12:30pm and finishes at 4:00pm , with breaks in between .
Tickets are $ 22 adults , $ 18 concession , $ 45 family and can be purchased online .
Jazz at the Pines is a project of The Rotary Club of The Hills-Kellyville with the support of The Hills Shire Council .
