Coffee Trad3rs not only looks after their customers , they look after their community too ! by Lorna Gordon
Tucked away in Rouse Hill , just behind the Bunnings store is a hidden gem . Coffee Trad3rs opened their second café in Capital Place , just along from the new City Cave , in February 2021 and this beautiful café has been building its clientele since then .
I spoke to James , the owner , over a cup of tea one cloudy morning recently , but the overcast sky didn ’ t deter the stream of people coming in for their morning cuppa or staying for a delicious breakfast or brunch . James told me that while he is proud of his cafés ( their original café is in Castle Hill on Victoria Avenue ) it has been a difficult year .
“ The café was a shell when we moved in , so we designed it ourselves and did the fit out to make sure it met our high standards . We opened on 26 February , then four months later COVID hit and we closed the café at Rouse Hill to concentrate on our established café in Castle Hill to get through the lockdown .”
During the bushfires of 2019 they looked after the firefighters . In the last lockdown the Castle Hill café used its pay it forward scheme to give free coffee to nurses and doctors and the testers at local COVID test centres . They also supplied other emergency workers , as well as trying to support locals who were doing it tough .
One lucky customer even got flowers included in her delivery on her birthday !

“ We have always done the pay it forward coffee since we opened . During COVID the customers wanted to do something for the people looking after us . We were happy to help the community give back in this way .”
Being involved in the local community is not just giving back to the emergency services or their customers , it ’ s also very much part of their business ethos with produce being sourced locally , and this freshness is reflected in the restaurant quality meals they offer .
“ Buying local produce is good for us , our customers get incredibly fresh food and it ’ s good for the local economy to put money back into it . We support local and give back to local , we are not big , but every bit helps !”
James and his team didn ’ t let the lockdown dampen their spirits . When it ended they took a week to get their new café in shape and opened it up again . Since they have opened , they ensure they do a regular deep clean and professional COVID spray which keeps their customers and staff protected at a higher level than most cafes in the area .
The café itself is beautifully laid out and has a fantastic kid ’ s area for the little ones with their own café so they can make mum and dad their own ‘ coffee ’! There is also a built in Lego wall for little designers to let their imaginations run free .
If you want to support a café with a big heart , check out Coffee Trasd3rs in Rouse Hill . You won ’ t be disappointed !
