New bridge cuts out

No more creek-line shortcuts for students and locals living near Kellyville High School .
Smalls Creek pedestrian bridge opened just in time for the reopening of back to school classes , offering a safer , easier way to navigate the water course . The bridge , which spans 26 metres in length over the Sydney Water creek line , links Hayes Avenue to Queensbury Avenue .
Hills Shire Mayor , Dr Michelle Byrne , said the unofficial creek line shortcut raised safety concerns .
“ The creek line is undeveloped and students were crossing a stream of running water and then climbing the steep banks [ to get to school ] … this was very concerning for council , as well as the school .
“ The new bridge will significantly improve safety , and supports council ’ s efforts to improve connectivity and walkability within The Hills Shire .”
Council contributed $ 140,000 to its construction , with Transport NSW putting in $ 76,472 to the project . Sydney Water

Member for Castle Hill Ray Williams MP said the new bridge will be a vital asset to locals .
“ It will provide a much safer route to school for local students , and we hope it will encourage more people to walk and cycle as part of their everyday routine or commute ,” Mr Williams said .

Men ’ s violence against women is an ongoing epidemic which was made worse due to the pandemic , particularly the extended lockdown , according to White Ribbon Australia .
“ Lockdowns and social distancing have not only created a spike in violence , but also reduced the ability of victims to seek help ,” a spokesperson said .
Family and domestic violence is a violation of human rights . It is violence , abuse and intimidation between family members or people in intimate relationships and comes in various forms :
• emotional abuse
• physical assault
• sexual assault
• verbal abuse
• financial abuse
• psychological abuse
• isolating a person from their friends and family
• stopping a person from practicing their religion
The aim of the annual awareness day is to change attitudes and social norms that excuse or condone disrespect , sexual harassment , and abuse .
Standing up , speaking out and supporting are ways you can help raise awareness .
