It ’ s wonderful to see so many award recipients featured this month . Last month the Hills Shire Council celebrated the dedication of volunteers during National Volunteer Week , p4 . Mayor of The Hills Shire Dr Peter Gangemi thanked hundreds of volunteers for their service to the community , in fact , the number registered with council is 1,037 . This year ’ s theme is ‘ something for everyone ’ which appropriately describes the wide range of activities volunteers are involved in .
Our front cover features two amazing ladies , Barbara Stewart and Marilyn Stoneham , who between them have volunteered for a staggering 95 years !
The heart of Rotary is about serving the community to change lives , p9 . Last month the Rotary Club of the Hills – Kellyville held its annual Pride of Workmanship and Community Service awards . Six individuals were recognised for their outstanding work in the community .
HDI
The club supports projects in the Hills , the outback and overseas .
Hills residents are a caring lot , more than 250 people walked through Castle Hill as part of the inaugural Hills March for Change . The RSL provided breakfast and speakers ranged from students to police . The aim of the event was to make a stand against Domestic and Family Violence and raise awareness throughout the community .
The annual Cancer Council Hills Relay for Life has just had its 23 rd birthday . This popular fundraiser saw around 100 teams brave weather and rain in the 24-hour walkathon in Castle Hill , raising crucial funds for the fight against cancer .
The cooler weather could be warning sign that Winterfest is almost upon us ! Immerse yourself in a colourful world of heraldry and fantasy on 6 / 7 July at the Hawkesbury Showground .
Until next month – keep warm .
