Former residents ’ surveys have proven to council planners how important locals ’ input is . So , once again , you are invited to shape the 2024 Arts and Culture Strategy which will inform what type of events and activities will be offered in The Shire . Page 4 has all the details on how you can participate in a short online survey .
The Hills Shire was declared a natural disaster area following the recent rain and floods that impacted most of NSW from 4 - 6 April . Extra federal and state funding will help council clean up and repair essential roads and community facilities , p10 .
Hornsby Shire Council are certainly ahead of the pack ! Council , in association with the NSW Government , have opened a pioneering Children ’ s Forest in Fagan Park , Galston . It is only the second of its kind in Australia and features discovery pods , timber animal interactions and a Yarning
HDI
Circle . The idea behind the forest is to foster ‘ connection and responsible stewardship of nature ’ p8 .
If you are wanting to get out and about in the cooler weather , do we have stuff for you ! Blacktown Festival opens the weekend of 4 - 5 May and lots of activities and events are scattered throughout the month . Think youth games , live music , a parade and medieval fair plus food vans and delectable , delicious deserts , p1.2
The inaugural Windsor Gas Lamp Festival will be another delight , so put a date saver in your diary for next month , 7-10 June . The festival will take you back in time to when Windsor ’ s cobbled streets were lit by shadowy gas lamps . A town crier and locals dressed in period costume will add to the bygone era atmosphere , p26 .
The team at the Independent wish all of you mums out there a happy mother ’ s day .
